Snippets Of Debates About Islam

Islam: The Religion Of Peace (TM).
Source

Note: This article doesn't make much sense in itself. It's more of a catch-all for responses to arguments I hear during debates about Islam and the article: God Is Not Called Allah, And Muhammad Is Not His Prophet.

1) "If you leave that article on your web site, you will be kidnapped and tortured by Muslims"

Either Islam in itself breeds violence, or it doesn't. If Islam does not breed violence, then stop insulting Muslims! Use the words "terrorists" or "murdurers" instead of "Muslims", in your above question. Then, send me the proofs that Islam is in itself non-violent, the way I can send you such proofs for the Catholic Faith.

If on the contrary you believe Islam in itself breeds violence, then how come you are not actively participating in Politics, in order to change the laws in our country? Currently in Canada, Islam is officially encouraged in many ways: it can have its temples, religious schools, radio stations, etc. Also, much of the public media, paid for with our tax dollars (like the CBC), promotes Islam (by skillfully avoiding the topic of why terrorists behave as they do, or by showing only part of the official teachings of Islam, etc.). At the same time, the Catholic Faith (which is demonstrably non-violent) is attacked by the State (for example, private Catholic schools can no longer teach Catholicism in the Province of Quebec!)

2) "As a Catholic, you believe in the existence of Archangel Gabriel. But Islam teaches that Gabriel dictated the Koran to Muhammad. So how could you reject Islam, yet accept Catholicism?"

I don't reject Islam because of the things it has in common with Catholicism (the existence of Archangel Gabriel, etc.). On the contrary, I explicitly agree with many things taught by Islam:

The Church regards with esteem also the Muslims. They adore the one God, living and subsisting in Himself; merciful and all-powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to men; they take pains to submit wholeheartedly to even His inscrutable decrees, just as Abraham, with whom the faith of Islam takes pleasure in linking itself, submitted to God. Though they do not acknowledge Jesus as God, they revere Him as a prophet. They also honor Mary, His virgin Mother; at times they even call on her with devotion. In addition, they await the day of judgment when God will render their deserts to all those who have been raised up from the dead. Finally, they value the moral life and worship God especially through prayer, almsgiving and fasting.
[Nostra aetate, #3]

I reject Islam because it can be demonstrated to be a false religion. This demonstration is a part of Polemics (i.e. the arguments of Catholicism against other religions, and the rebuttals of the arguments of other religions against Catholicism). Apologetics and Polemics are part of Theology, and hence they don't belong in the Politics Section of this web site. But you can already get an idea of my arguments by considering what a true religion looks like, and of course I'll be happy to give you more explanations!

3) "What about the Crusades?"

Yes, what about them? If we are talking about "Religion A", what is the purpose of talking about "Religion B"? If we are trying to figure out whether the religion of "The Disciples Of The Holy Machine-Gun" is intrinsically violent, what is the use of talking about the violence of "The Disciples Of The Holy Bazooka"?

We are trying to study Islam in itself, for political purposes (to protect our citizens from bad religions). If you also want to study Catholicism, great! Let's get some good history books and read them together. And let's not forget that we have to make a distinction between what a religion officially teaches, and what some morons do in the name of that religion. And let's also keep in mind that much anti-Catholic propaganda is floating out there in today's Media.
